Last night I went to dinner and the show with a couple of tennis friends of mine. We all piled in the car and headed to Shelter Cove and the Kingfisher Restaurant. It was raining hard so I dropped them off at the front – a convenient circle drive made this easy – and parked right across the street in a large parking lot. Easy access all around.
The restaurant sits on the water, so first impressions of a beautiful water view make this place a must-go-to for visitors and locals alike. The decor is a bit dated (think large patterned carpets reminiscent of old hotel lobbies) but in good taste and very clean. Many large windows keep your focus on the water. Perfect old-style seafood house.
There are lots of seafood choices on the menu as well as pasta and steaks. We each had a seafood selection – crab cakes $21, fresh catch of the day (swordfish) $21 and tilapia $19 – and everyone agreed the food was very good. They also have a kids menu, so this would be a good choice for a family outing. A magician is there on Sunday and Mondays to entertain the kids (and adults). Entertainment is offered nightly, so check their website for the schedule. www.kingfisherseafood.com
Entertainment is the main reason we chose to dine at Kingfisher – the Hilton Head Comedy Club is now located upstairs and it was ladies night (every Tuesday night)! Each of us received half-price admission, so for $6, we were happy! There are no minimums for drinks as is often the case, so there is no pressure to comsume anything but comedy. If you have had dinner downstairs, you can have dessert upstairs.
I have to say, I LOVE the Hilton Head Comedy Club. The comedians are almost always nationally known and you get a new comic each week. The venue is small, so every seat in the house is a good one. The menu all comes from downstairs at Kingfisher’s. With a full bar, what’s not to love about this place? Something new and different for you and your friends.
Worried about a comedian with a foul mouth? Visit their website at www.hiltonheadcomedyclub.comfor the full schedule and the type of comedian featured that week. They will let you know if the routine has explicit material (most don’t). We took our 19 and 20 year-old kids there last year with no uncomfortable moments (you know what I mean!).
I had asked about the comedian’s material when I made reservations.
I highly recommend an evening out at both Kingfisher’s and the Hilton Head Comedy Club and I hope you do, too! Let me know if you go and comment on your experience.
