I remember the very first time we went to the Jazz Corner Hilton Head back in 2008. I had heard the popular band Deas-Guyz rocked the house there every Sunday night to a standing-room only audience. Billed as a not-to-be-missed occasion, both the music and the food proved to be outstanding, as promised. We have been there many times since and it just keeps getting better and better with many never-to-be-forgotten dinners and performances.
One of the Top 100 Jazz Clubs in the World
Yes, here in little ‘ol Hilton Head, we have one of the best jazz clubs IN THE WORLD, according to DOWNBEAT magazine. They get first-class musicians every single night of the week. Weekends usually feature international, Grammy-award winning artists with a two-night gig. Bria Skonberg, pictured on the left, Annie Sellick, Noel Freidline, Freddy Cole(Nat King Cole’s brother) and Deana Martin (Dean Martin’s daughter) are just some of the acts we have seen at Jazz Corner Hilton Head and won’t forget anytime soon.
Not Just Jazz at The Jazz Corner Hilton Head
If you are thinking to yourself, “I just don’t think I want to hear boring old jazz,” well, think again! First of all, the jazz there is never boring – always a good mix of instrumental genius with vocal variety. But, if jazz isn’t your thing, Sunday nights feature Deas-Guyz with rocking R & B and Motown. Tuesday nights feature swing music from the great American songbooks. Thursday nights are usually reserved for local legends Lavon and Louise, who play a mix of jazz, broadway and blues. The first time I saw their show, Louise belted out the best version of one of my favorite songs, “California Dreaming,” I have ever heard. Every night features a different act with a different sound, most with vocals. Weekends are reserved for the “really big shows.”

World Class Dining at The Jazz Corner Hilton Head
You know how it goes: you go to hear live music but the food is less than par. Let’s face it, most great music venues do not have good food. The Jazz Corner is one NOT one of these places – their food is outstanding. One of our favorite places to eat on the island, The Jazz Corner Hilton Head never disappoints us with their menu variety and taste sensations. For our restaurant week selections last Friday, John enjoyed Chicken stuffed with spinach and pears while I feasted on pot roast in a rich sauce, with a side of collards (yes, I am developing Southern taste buds). Their fresh fish selections change seasonally and are always good. The Jazz Corner also has an extensive wine list and features several good wines in half-bottles, perfect for the red vs. white wine couple’s dilemma!
The Jazz Corner Hilton Head is Memorable
Owners Bob and Lois Masteller’s philosophy says it all: “Our guests come to The Jazz Corner over and again for a fine dinner, good drinks and great music. The friendly welcome and efficient service our guests receive is paramount to making their visit memorable. All our staff consider that nothing less than a duty.” Most locals remember when Bob and Lois first opened the Jazz Corner Hilton Head and there were lots of empty seats. Now, the 99-seat venue is always packed. I remember some empty seats, too, back in 2008, when we first became regulars. Now, I have to remember to call way ahead for reservations. I am going to do that right away so I don’t miss the upcoming show with Rene Marie singing her tribute to Eartha Kitt from her Grammy-nominated CD “I Wanna Be Evil.” Another memory in the making!
